World Cup Qualifiers: Italian Coach Roberto Mancini Invites Young Star

Sensational young star, Nicolo Zaniolo has been given a surprise invitation to rejoin the European Champions, Italy for the upcoming Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers, first time the Azzurri will play after emerging champions at Euro 2020.

Coach Roberto Mancini named a 34-man team for the triple leg qualifiers against Bulgaria, Switzerland and Lithuania as Italy look to extend their great start to Group C, which they are already leading with nine points after three games down.

Mancini listed every member of the team that led Italy to penalty shootout glory at Wembley last month exception of Leonardo Spinazzola of Roma, who will not be a part of the team as a result of Achilles injury that saw him discontinue his Euro 2020 campaign in the quarter-final win over former world number one, Belgium.

AS Roma’s Zaniolo, marked a special talent in Italy but serious injuries issues affecting his two knees hindered the career of the 22-year-old to a point almost of truncating his career and made him missed the Euro. He got back to full time action for this year’s campaign under Jose Mourinho and scored his first goal since July last year when he registered a goal in Roma’s 3-0 win over Turkish side Trabzonspor, which helped the capital club into the Europa Conference League group stage.

Also in the squad is another star on return. Striker Moise Kean, who also a returning player to the Azzurri seem to be making his way back to Juventus from Everton in club football after Cristiano Ronaldo left for Man United, while Gianluca Scamacca, Sassuolo forward was handed first call up with the national team.

First time since championing Europe, Italy will be playing in front of home fans for the first time as European champions greeting them against Bulgaria in Florence on Thursday, before travelling to Basel for an encounter with Switzerland on September 5 and logging horns with Lithuania at home in Reggio Emilia three days after returning from Switzerland.
