Emma Raducanu, 18 years old, finished her lightly believable campaign in New York with a 6-4 6-3 victory over her 19 years old Canadian opponent in a high quality US Open final.
The 18 year old Briton fired herself to the last two in disbelief as she pulled down an ace to end what has been the most outstanding journey.
The Briton served for the match at 5-3 but cut her leg as she got break point down, heading to a medical time-out and a obviously irritated Fernandez showing her disappointment to the match official.
Similarly, Emma clearer off the waste of time, saving m next break point till closing out her third championship point.
Raducanu and Fernandez hugged warmly until the champion of the day claimed up the stairs at Arthur Ashe Stadium to continue jubilating along her support box.
Raducanu was praised by Virginia Wade who was emotionally engrossed. Wade happened to be the last British woman to have won a major trophy at Wimbledon since 1977.
Despite having two tough and experienced opponents in her way, including Swiss born Olympic champion Belinda, Emma Raducanu was still able to make it to the finals and become eventual winner.
