Belinda Bencic, an Olympic champion reached the feat on the back of a frustrating match against Iga Swiatek to get to the US Open quarter-finals in an unfriendedly hot conditions in New York.
The 24 years old Switzerland born got her victory in a huge first set tie-break to set up a 7-6 (14-12) 6-3 win against the seventh-seeded Pole.
The first set took fmone hour 24 minutes, a time which is more than the entire Adelaide Open final time that has ever been used which Swiatek and Bencic tackle against each other in the beginning of this year.
She will tackle Britain’s Emma Raducanu or American Shelby Rogers in the next round of the tourney.
Belinda Bencic, who landed in the final four of the competition in the 2019 edition at Flushing Meadows, is still to leave behind a set in this year’s event.
She got in the first game of the match and lunched services for the set, but Swiatek retaliated, collecting a set point of her own before being ending up into a tie-break.
In the game, the 11th seed then had to hustle off another three set points before finally grabbing the opener on her fifth attempt.
She settled herself better in the following game, winning four of the final six games to gain a spot in the last eight.
Bianca Andreescu, who defeated Bencic in 2019, takes on Greece’s Maria Sakkari while Wimbledon finalist Karolina Pliskova takes on Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the later rounds of the tournament.
