The Top 20 Christmas Songs

The Top 20 Christmas Songs-Christmas is a religious and cultural holiday celebrated by billions of people throughout the world every year on December 25 to remember the day Jesus Christ was born.

When we say “Christmas,” we mean “Christ-mass.” Although the exact year of its inception is unknown, the practice of celebrating it dates back to at least the fourth century. Throughout Europe, pagan solstice celebrations were supplanted by Christians as a result of church influence. Is It True That Jesus Was Born On Christmas?

Easter was the most important Christian event in the first centuries after Jesus’ death and resurrection. The birth of Jesus was officially recognized as a festival by the church in the fourth century. The Bible, sadly, does not provide a birth date for him (a fact Puritans later pointed out to deny the legitimacy of the celebration). Pope Julius, I set the date of Christ’s birth as December 25 despite evidence suggesting that it may have occurred in the spring. Many people believe the church deliberately picked this date to appropriate the rituals of the ancient Roman celebration of Saturnalia. Originally celebrated in Europe as the Feast of the Nativity, the practice had made its way to Egypt by 432 and England by the end of the sixth century.

Christmas And Saturnalia

Saturnalia, a festival honoring Saturn, the god of agriculture, was celebrated at Rome, where winters were milder than in the far north. It was a month-long celebration that began in the week before the winter solstice, Saturnalia was a time when food and drinks were plentiful and the normal Roman social order was flipped upside down. People who had been enslaved were given their freedom and treated as free for a month. Businesses and educational institutions around the country were closed to ensure that everyone could take part in the holiday celebrations.

The Roman festival of Juvenalia, dedicated to the city’s youth, was held at the same time as the winter solstice. In addition, the upper classes frequently observed the December 25th birthday of Mithra, the god of the unconquerable sun. Mithra, a newborn god, was said to have sprung from a rock. Some Romans held Mithra’s birthday to be the holiest day of the year.
