Yuletide: Governor Emmanuel Assures Of More Security Patrol Vans

Governor Udom Emmanuel has assured Akwa Ibom people of the commitments of his administration to the security of lives and property.

The Governor gave the assurance, Sunday during a church service held at Latter Days Chapel, Government House, Uyo to mark the first Sunday of the month.

Worried by reports of pockets of criminal activities in some parts of the state, the Governor announced that arrangements have been made to procure patrol vehicles for the Police and other security outfits before Christmas in a bid to ensure that the citizenry and visitors enjoy a peaceful and crime-free yuletide.

Mr. Emmanuel who also enjoined the citizenry to pay serious attention to security matters around their environments, maintained that everyone has a role to play in ensuring a safe and secure state for all, and tasked religious leaders to partner government in the fight against crime and moral decadence in the society.

“When we get to this point of the year(End of year), you see some pockets of criminal activities, but I think we are really trying our best as human beings.

“Please, you also have a role to play to watch out strange movements and strange people around your area. Some people are not observant of what is happening around them at all, until you are being hit and it’s really really a problem”.

“I appeal to CAN and PFN Chairmen to also help us have enlightenment messages in most churches.

“The Police have done their very best. We have ordered for some patrol vehicles. We are hoping that they will all come before Christmas, so that will help you to really move freely. WeYuletide: Governor Emmanuel Assures Citizenry on will make arrangements to get those patrol vehicles before Christmas so that it would really help us. Let us pay attention to security”.

Speaking on ongoing projects executed by his government, Governor Emmanuel assured that all the projects will be completed before he leaves office.

He said most projects are still being slowed by the global movement restrictions caused by the pandemic.

“Every single project we have running, all will be completed. We have some projects we wanted to commission this December, but we can only do one, because we are being cautious of COVID-19”.

“We want to give people assurance, you know 2020 for about eight months we couldn’t move or work.

“As at today if you check at the airport, our international terminal building there seems to have stopped. It is not because of anything but because there are no galvanised pipes in Nigeria, the entire roof structure and claddings of that place are in the high sea, some of these things have been seriously delayed, we were hoping it would come in before December because we were to roof.

“So we can’t move on with some aspects of the project till those equipment come in.”

In the area of medical delivery, the Governor hinted that the General Hospital at Ikot Ekpene upon completion “will be the best”, adding that the government was working assiduously towards making Ikot Ekpene a training centre for Nurses and medical experts”.
