Akwa Ibom State Government has called on parents to get acquainted with the new academic timetable for schools reopening.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Education Monitoring, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet made the call on Monday during a radio programme, Akwa Ibom Rising on Inspiration FM 105.9 Uyo hosted by Mr Aniekeme Finbarr.
Mrs Etiebet explained that parents must be aware on the new measures adopted by the State Ministry of Education to maintain physical distancing among students while resuming classes for third term.
She also explained that the allocation of students on specific day to attend school is to prevent clustering of students in classes, adding that the recent allotment of classes do not affect pupils in primary schools and secondary schools whose population does not exit 2500 students.
According to her, those in Junior Classes (JSS1and2) in schools whose population is above 2500 are to attend school from Monday to Wednesday, while those in Senior Classes (SS1and2) in the same school are to attend school from Thursday to Saturday.
For those in technical colleges whose population is more than 2500 students, Junior Classes (JT1and2) are to attend school from Monday to Wednesday, while those in Senior Classes (ST1and2) in the same school are also to attend school from Thursday to Saturday.
She added that it is imperative for parents to understand the new arrangements in order to regulate the movement of their wards, assuring that Government will continue to monitor the compliance of NCDC guidelines in every school to ensure safety environment for students.
She advised teachers to be punctual and committed to teaching, warning that any teacher who fail to discharge his/her duty appropriately will be sanctioned.
She also noted that teachers in schools under category 1 with students enrolment above 2500 are to report in school from Mondays to Saturdays irrespective of the class they are teaching, while others are expected to be in school from Mondays to Fridays.
On the International Day of the Girl Child, Mrs. Etiebet commended the efforts of Governor Udom Emmanuel for incorporating women in his administration Which has created a sense of belonging to the girl child. She equally appreciated the wife of the Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Martha Emmanuel on her doubled efforts towards protecting the girl child from rape and other social vices.
Mrs. Etiebet commended the Council Chairman of Nsit Atai LGA for celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child to emphasize on the need to equip the girl child of today for a greater tomorrow and call on other women in position of authority to emulate the Council Boss.
She advised every girl child to have self dignity and character and to devote time for reading to compete favourably with boys in leadership and other spheres of life. She however encourage girls to shun bad gangs and early relationship that is capable of ruining their brighter future.
