The Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State has begun moves to constitute executive Committee members for the new wards recently created by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, AKISIEC.
To this end, the PDP in Akwa Ibom State has met with stakeholders to discuss and agree on modalities which will ensure a hitch-free Congress to produce the exco members for the newly created wards.
Ward Congress to elect executive committee members to the affected wards will hold this Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the respective ward centres.
Addressing the stakeholders, State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom, Obong Udo Ekpenyong said the need to conduct congress to elect executive committee members into these wards arose as a result of the creation of Thirty-nine (39) new wards in Akwa Ibom State by the State Independent Electoral Commission, AKISIEC.
Obong Udo Ekpenyong said as a party that respects and abides by the constitutionally-backed actions of the electoral commission, the PDP is always ready to take actions that will deepen democracy and strengthen Party politics in the State and the nation.
The State PDP helmsman explained “The Congress will elect officers to fill vacant positions left by the creation of new wards, positions left by Exco members who aspired and became candidates in the forthcoming Local Government elections, as well as deceased Exco members in the wards. To this end, the Congress shall take place in a total of 82 wards who now have vacant positions as a result of the circumstances I have mentioned”
Obong Udo Ekpenyong enjoined PDP members in the affected wards to participate fully in the activities leading to the congress as well as the congress proper.
Those present at the meeting include State officers of the PDP, Chairmen of the 31 Local Government Areas, Chapter Chairmen of the PDP in the 31 Local Government Areas as well as Chairmen of Local Organising Committee for the Local Government election.
