The newly inaugurated Chairman Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch, Engr. Ukeme Okpob has assured to protect the interest of members of the society and to build a befitting Secretariat complex for the branch.
Engr. Okpob gave the assurance on Saturday during his investiture speech as the 15th Chairman and inauguration of the 2020/2021 Executive of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo branch at Watbridge Hotel, Uyo.
Engr. Okpob assured that the interest of the members will highly be protected by his administration, explaining that the Secretariat complex will serve as the central administrative block and for hosting of guests, seminars, workshops and conferences by the society.
“Next on the agenda is Building a befitting Secretariat complex for NSE members in Uyo branch. The complex is to serve as the central administrative block for this branch with well furnished offices and a conference hall. The Secretariat complex will be the main venue for hosting of guests, seminars, workshops and conferences. This is the mother branch for all other branches in Akwa Ibom State. Therefore, we must set the pace for other branches to emulate”. He assured.
He added that his administration will intensify effort in collaborating with Government at all levels to ensure that standards are maintained in constructions and other Engineering services.
Engr. Okpob also assured to build a good working relationship with National, International and multinational organizations with the aim of promoting and rebranding Uyo branch of NSE.
He noted that the Uyo branch of NSE has all the ingredients for continued success and growth in engineering services, pledging to serve the mission with all he can offer to move the society forward.
While acknowledging the the support of the National President of NSE, Engr. Babagana Muhammad FNSE for his contributions and support for Uyo branch, Engr. Okpob called on the President and Chairman-in-Council of NSE to resolve the acrimony that trailed the inability of the immediate past president to resolve the MerMart issue during the EGM of June 27, 2019.
He specifically appreciated the Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Engr. Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem FNSE and the Chairman of Ibom Power Company, Engr. Etido Inyang FNSE for their special support towards the Success of the event.
He also thanked all members of Nigerian Society of Engineers mostly Uyo branch for their support and cooperation and for finding him Worthy to lead the branch.
On his part, the President Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Babagana Muhammad appreciated all the Engineers in Uyo branch, saying that the branch has performed sincere and admiring leadership roles in the growth of the Nigeria Society of Engineers.
Engr. Muhammad called on all Engineers in Uyo branch to assist the leadership of Engr. Ukeme Okpob to raise the Branch to its peak and assured regular National support to the branch.
Also, the keynote speaker Engr. Prof. Charles Uko who lectured on the topic, “Practices and Contributions of Engineering in Akwa Ibom State: A Post Covid19 Assessment”, advised Engineers to always adhere to the ethics of the profession.
However, Engr. Ukeme Okpob was inaugurated together with 20 members of the executive to serve 2020 to 2021.
Engr. Ukeme Okpob is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Opulence 5 Contractors Ltd, a construction/consulting firm based in Uyo. He is also the country representative of Kenzai Ceramic Industries Company of Thailand and a sole distributor of Kenzai Ceramic tiles in Nigeria.
He holds an Ordinary National Diploma in Building Construction from the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT Enugu and a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the Enugu State University, Enugu. He is currently on Masters programme in Construction Management in the University of Uyo.
Engr. Okpob was appointed into the board of the Akwa Ibom State Procurement Council as a Council member. He is a former Publicity Secretary of the Society and he served as the immediate past Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch.
