NAAKISS Worldwide Honours Prince Akpabio as Patron, Seeks More Support for Students Development

National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) Worldwide has honoured Akwa Ibom State Commissioner, Ministry of Trader and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio as Patron of the association.

The award of honour was conferred to Prince Akpabio on Tuesday when the President of the association, Snr. Comr. Aniedi Michael led members of his Executive to a courtesy visit in his office at Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Trade and Investment, Idongest Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.

According to Comr. Aniedi Michael, the honour is based on Prince Ukpong Akpabio support to Akwa Ibom State Students, support to Students unionism and massive empowerment of the youth which students are great beneficiaries.

He described Prince Akpabio as a student friendly Leader that encourages and supports students progrmames and activities. He noted that no student can easily forget his magnanimity to Students Unionism and development.

“We have seen your name boldly written on 18-seater buses across the 31 Chapters of NAAKISS and many other Student’s Associations. This alone has promoted Student Unionism to a greater height. We are much aware of your scholarship programmes to Students in different Institutions, support to academic programmes, support grants to outstanding students at the Law Faculty of the University of Uyo and your personal support to Students Associations.”

Comr. Michael also briefed the Hon. Commissioner on his achievements in less than few months in office which he mentioned, free JAMB preparatory classes in Uyo, first ever students security summit at EEMJM Hotel, Uyo, Campus tour in Tertiary Institutions in Akwa Ibom State, establishment of NAAKISS Worldwide Vegetable Farm among others.

He decried that the association suffers lack of office accommodation for administrative use, lack of vehicle to aid in the supervision, monitoring of projects and day-to-day running of the association activities, lack of funds for execution of the association capital projects as captured in 2020 annual budget of NAAKISS Worldwide, lack of scholarship and bursary for students.

He however appealed for more support from the Commissioner and prayed to God Almighty to continue protecting him for the benefit of Akwa Ibom State Students.

Responding to the honour, the Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio appreciated the Students Leaders for the award bestowed on him, saying that he deserves an award from students. “I can proudly say that I Merit this Award.”

Prince Akpabio noted that he has invested much in touching the lives of students beginning from his days as a Law Student in the University of Uyo.

Apart from supporting students on payment of school fees and giving scholarship to Akwa Ibom State Students, the Commissioner mentioned that he has built Hostel in Akwa Ibom State University, provided buses to Chapter Associations of NAAKISS and other Student Groups in several Institutions within and outside the State.

He decried that although some of the buses which he gave to Students Associations were involved in criminal activities, but he noted that such activities cannot force him not to support genuine Students progress, affirming that NAAKISS is the only student’s platform recognized by the State Government.

He advised the president of NAAKISS to caution Akwa Ibom State Students from insulting elders on Social Media, involving in cultism and engaging in social vices that degrade the value of a state.

Principe Akpabio adopted the proposal presented by NAAKISS Worldwide President on NAAKISS vegetable farm and promised to continually support student’s programmes, projects and activities.

He advised the President and his Executive to work towards expanding the farming business, saying that the project will provide enough raw materials for Tomato Processing Company about to be set up by the Akwa Ibom State Government.

He however encouraged the president to also extend his agriculture programmes to Primary and Secondary Schools in the State to encourage farming among school children.

He advised all the students to put their Academics first as the main reason why they are in higher Institutions, noting that good results and what they learned in school will help them in their future endeavors.

The courtesy visit featured presentation of a portrait picture and NAAKISS Worldwide vegetable farm projects proposal to the Honourable Commissioner.
