Sokoto State Confirms 265 Cases Of Cholera And Records 13 Deaths

The Government of Sokoto State has confirmed 265 cases of cholera-caused gastroenteritis in not more than 13 (thirteen) local government areas of the state.
Dr Ali Muhammed Inname, the State Commissioner for Health, said this while addressing reporters in the state.

Inname also added that the outbreak claimed the lives of 23 persons since its recent outbreak in the state.

Again, Inname said the state ministry of health has taken positive steps of setting up two different disease control teams to monitor and educate the public on the dangers of cholera.

The Commissioner, the ministry had set up a case management team where doctors will go round to take care of health workers as well as an environmental response team who will also go round and educate persons in the rural areas on how to treat their water.

And he also said that the ministry of health wants to inform members of the general public that there is a disease outbreak of gastroenteritis in many states in Nation not excluding Sokoto State.

He associated the recent outbreak was due to the rainy season and as while named the following local governments as the affected ones with one or more cases.

The commissioner listed affected councils to include Isa, Bodinga, Wamakko, Silame, Illela, Sabon Birni, Yabo Rabah, Wurno, Shuni, Kebbe, Gwadabwa, Tangaza LGAs, while Gwadabwa local government has more cases.

However, he urged members of the public to reduce visitation especially to the sick at this period so as to curtail the spread of the disease.

Ali also directed health workers especially those in the rural areas to discontinue with the practice of giving treatment to patients in their homes but instead refer such persons to the closest health care facility for proper treatment.
