All doesn’t seem to be well with the All Progressive Congress political party at the moment. Just a few days after the party faced what was said to be their major defeat since they came to limelight in the Edo State governorship election as they lose the governorship election against their former member, Governor Obaseki. The party appears to be battling with some internal crises.
It wasn’t long that the party lost the Edo governorship election when Senator, Rochas Okorocha said in a live broadcast that APC is dead and that what’s left remaining in the party now is just respect for Buhari, the Nigerian President. Although many people said it was because his in-law was rejected for Imo State gubernatorial candidate in the past election where he pushed his in-law to be his successor after his second tenure as Imo Governor. In his case, we could understand where his frustration is coming from but the party had begun the suspension of his highly placed members.
The All Progressive Congress APC had just suspended Ekiti State Governor, Fayemi. A suspension that was said to be as a result of his involvement in an anti-party activity.
A lot of people are optimistic that the next person in line to be suspended is Senator Rochas Okorocha for his comment that APC is dead and that the only thing left in the party is respect for Buhari, Nigerian President. People believe there’s more than just meet the eyes that is going on in the party that they are yet to know.
Many Nigerians who are fed up with the non-performance of the All Progressive Party since they took over power from the People Democratic Party in the 2015 general election that saw President Buhari into power believed that the party does not deserve to retain power in 2019 after President Buhari couldn’t keep his electoral promises but the will of the people did not prevail as a result of the rigging that was done in the 2019 general election.
Now, the question is, could do this be the beginning of an end in the APC as a party? Only time will tell but the recent development could make the party lose its prominent members and face the same fate that PDP faced in 2015.
