Following the lingering crisis between Obodogwugwu and Ugbolu communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area in Delta State, a 30 year old man, Mr. Onyinye Onwuka has been shot dead.
Mr Onwuka who was an indigene of Idigbe- Ocha quarters, Obodogwugwu in Okpanam Community was shot dead on Monday by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
Sources from Obodogwugwu community the victim was shot dead during a controversial dispute with some suspected youth from Ugbolu, a neighbouring community.
The sources also explained that there is an underground land dispute between Obodogwugwu and Ugbolu communities which is yet to be resolved for about 4 years now.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer , DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, on Monday, confirmed the incident, saying that investigations had commenced in earnest on the matter to trace the suspects
Mr Onovwakpoyeya said that no arrest had been made yet in connection with the killing.
He assured that police is on top of the situation to arrest the perpetrators.
“The information we got is that the man was killed over land matter, for now , no arrest has been made but our men are on top of the situation to arrest the perpetrators”.
However, another source disclosed that there was a serious land dispute between Obodogwugwu and Ugbolu communities
for about four years ago which the people of Ugbolu took the matter concerning the ownership of the land to court and lost the suit to Idigbe- Ocha quarters , Okpanam.
