An average of N400,000 has been spent on treating each coronavirus patient at Kaduna State Isolation Centre.
Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai disclosed this in a meeting with the National Executive Council of Northern Traditional Rulers Council led by the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar 111, in Kaduna State recently.
Mallam El-Rufai explained that the N400,000 was spent as a result of a high increase in the price of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for medical workers, feeding of patients as well as an increase in the price of drugs.
He added that the state is so fortunate to record a limited number of death cases as a result of complications on few patients arising from the virus.
He stressed that the state has also recorded a huge success in treating COVID-19 patients, including some patients with underlying complications.
Governor El-Rufai reminded that though the curve has been flattened, the virus has not left completely, calling on the traditional rulers to continue in sensitizing the people to protect themselves against the virus.
“We have to bear this cost. It costs about N400,000 to treat each COVID-19 patient. They have to be isolated and fed. The cost of medicine has increased, even the Personal Protective Equipments PPEs that the doctors treating them are using. When you add all these up, the average cost of treatment is over N400,000 per person.”
