In Zamfara State, Flood Kills 14 and Displaces Many Home

No less than 14 people have lost their lives and numerous houses decimated following the flood which attacked the Gummi Community in Zamfara State Last Week.
Editorial Times accumulated that many occupants are presently dislodged. A portion of the dislodged inhabitants are taking refuge in some schools in the state.

One of the residents disclosed that the Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Control to Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle paid a visit to the affected community and distributed foodstuffs and other valuables to the victims.

The visitor attributed the flood accident to bad roads

The resident testified how he witnessed seeing 14 people died in the incident. He said he saw them with his own eyes and the decimated houses. He narrated that though he could not take the count serially but believed there were up to hundreds of houses that got washed away by the flood.

The Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Control visited the affected community and distributed foodstuffs and other valuables to the victims and gave them his words that the government would give its support.

The residents of the affected community express their fears that if their houses are not repaired, and their schools reopened, they won’t have any other option than to migrate somewhere else to live, they said.

Different PLAGUE every day, considering the activities of the BOKOHARAM and the BANDITs ravaging the north, then again FLOOD. The sad news coming from that region daily is beginning to be worrisome and disturbing. Aside the natural disasters, bad leadership is one of the worst things that has happened to the Northern region. Human being remains invaluable provided the North is concerned.

The level of underdevelopment is too much and that is because the leaders are not delivering on good governance. Some of these community does not have access to portal drinking water let alone electricity.

I feel so sad and pained considering what the Northern region of Nigeria are going through, innocent bloods crying each passing day in this region of Nigeria, just take a look at where human beings are living, even though these people vote massively than other tribes during election and yet this is what they got. The question is, why can’t their government bring development and infrastructural project to these people? The people of the North need to wake up, hence the denying of the innocent people as a result of the various natural and human disasters will continue.

Since the government has rather deliberately refused to build drainages even when they managed to construct some roads. And as such, there is nowhere to contain the excess rainfall. The damage is indeed worrisome, where all their farm products got washed off. I am, therefore, urging the residents to take necessary measures to mitigate such disasters in the nearest future instead of waiting for the government. Create a local ditch and redirection for waterways.
