…vows to empower 34 indigenes with N34M, Sept 23
The much anticipated money rain has poured down in Akwa Ibom State again as the Member representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency, Rt Hon. Michael Enyong, has doled out N1 million business grant each to 11 indigenes of the State.
The empowerment programme which witnessed presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries, held at the Federal Lawmaker’s Ewet Housing residence, Thursday.
The beneficiaries of the business grants were openly drawn from across different local government areas of Uyo, Nsit Ibom, Nsit Atai, Eastern Obolo, Esit Eket Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, among others.
Speaking at the event, Rt Hon. Michael Enyong said the philanthropic gesture aimed at pushing the businesses of the beneficiaries to an enviable height and bettering their living standards, was triggered by his earnest determination to eradicate poverty amongst the people.
He posited that a poverty-free Local Government Area and State is practically achievable, noting that he will not relent efforts towards bringing to fruition a zero poverty society.
Giving full assurances to the people, the Uyo Federal Lawmaker said,”My people, I have a dream. A dream inspired by the Holy Scripture in Luke 4:18. Better days ahead, days of economic abundance, good news to the poor, liberty to the captives, freedom for the oppressed, welfare and liberation generally in Akwa Ibom State.
Enyong popularly known as Baba Ntan maintained that his trackrecord of philanthropy is a testament to the fact that caring about others is one of his innate gifts.
“My antecedents in charity and philanthropy attest to the fact that giving comes to me naturally. I give because I care not because I have in abundance. It is a nature I had expressed as a private business man long before I ventured into politics. I’m only taking it to a different level as a public office holder with the same vision and mission to empower each beneficiary with capacity of sustainable development.”
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Solid Minerals, thanked God for granting him the enabling grace to work assiduously for the resources given out to boost the businesses of the people. He specifically lauded the National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) for their continued collaboration.
In furtherance of his efforts to weed out poverty, Enyong pledged to turn 34 indigenes of the State into millionaires come September 23 when the State will clock 34.
It would be recalled that “Mr Empowerment” as he is fondly called by his people had in September 23, 2020 when the State celebrated her 33rd Anniversary, empowered 33 indigenes with a million naira each.
On her part, the Wife of the Federal Lawmaker, Mrs MaryGrace Enyong, urged the beneficiaries to use the grants judiciously.
She prevailed on the people to continue praying for God’s grace and blessings upon her husband, assuring that it will in turn be well with them if it is well with the Federal Lawmaker.
Reacting on behalf of the beneficiary, Mr Aniefiok Udoiwe from Nsit Ibom, thanked Enyong, saying he has brought revival and expansion to their businesses through the grants.
