Eno Ibanga Inspects Road Projects, Charges Contractors to Utilize Dry Season


In pursuant of the State Government’s determination to complete all projects it initiated before 2023,the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, on Monday,10th January, 2022, carried out an assessment of ongoing road projects in the State, where he charged contractors to intensify efforts in ensuring that they make use of the dry season to deliver their projects as stipulated by the State Government.

The Works and Fire Service helmsman, who led the Director of Civil, Ministry of Works and Fire Service, Engineer Akaninyene Henry, and a sizable number of Engineers from the Ministry round the project sites, noted that contractors handling different road projects in the State, have fully been mobilized to sites.

Addressing contractors in Obot Akara, Ikot Ekpene, Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika Local Government Areas, Ibanga asked them to take advantage of the dry season to speed up before the rains begin.


“My only request is that the sun is hot and we can do a lot now. But when it starts raining,we will not be able to do a lot,” Ibanga said.

Some of the projects sites visited were, Construction of 4.2km Abak Ifia -Ikpe Mbak Eyop road in Ikot Ekpene/ Obot Akara L.G.A,by Gracib Investment Limited,Construction of 6.475km Road in Amanyam community/ Comprehensive Health in Ikot Ekpene L.G.A, by Mirai Denchi Nig. Limited,Construction of 6.36Km Nko-Ikot Abia Osom-Ikpe Mbak Eyop- Abak Ifia link road in Obot Akara L.G.A, and Construction of 60m Span Nto-IDE-Ikot Amba Bridge with 800m Approach Road in Obot Akara L.G.A., by Seyang Limited,among others.

The Commissioner, who expressed satisfaction with the quality and extent of work done by some contractors, also expressed disappointment at others, thereby charging them to maximize the dry season and work at an expected pace to commensurate with the level of funding at their disposal.

He also commended some contractors for their good machinery, and charged them to live up to expectations in quality and excellent job, which will stand the thirst of time.

“One of the things I tell contractors when I go on tours is perception… Delivering an excellent job will speak well of you and your company,” he noted.


Speaking in Obot Akra, the Managing Director, Seyang Limited, Engineer Samuel Inyang, commended His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel and the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service for their show of love and efforts to see that the abandoned roads that were death traps have been brought to life. He promised to give his very best to the residents and the people of Akwa Ibom State.

“Honourable Commissioner, Sir, you and your boss, my Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, have done well to remember these roads which have been bad for decades. I respect the man who came and did all of these. If he could do this, Sir, how can I not do my very best to make these roads as it should be? That is what I am here for,” Inyang said.
