The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Port Harcourt Zonal Office has commenced intense interrogation and investigation of 11 suspected oil bunkers arrested in Rivers State.
In a statement signed the Head of Media and Publicity of the anti graff agency, the 11 suspects were identified as Indongesit Mfon; Asuquo James; Samuel Bassey; Blessed Bassey; Victor Attah; Edet Okon; Nse Okon; Innocent Effiong; Njok Okon, Uduak Asuquo and Effiong Asuquo.
The suspects were arrested by the Nigerian Navy and handed over to the EFCC for investigation. The Nigerian Navy Base in Bonny Island said the arrest was made following their suspected involvement in illegal oil bunkering.
The suspects were previously picked up on September 22, 2020, alongside 320 drums of petroleum product suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel).
The EFCC Head of Media and Publicity Mr. Wilson Uwujaren said, a Principal Detective Superintendent of the EFCC, Ani Stanley, received the suspects on behalf of the Port Harcourt Zonal Head, Abdulkarim Chukkol, and lauded the Nigerian Navy for maintaining the synergy between the Navy and the EFCC.
Mr. Stanley assured the Navy of thorough investigation into the said crime, and if established to have committed the said crime, they will be made to face the law.
