…as FG flags off training for Community Mobilization officers in A’Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Government has restated its resolve to work in close synergy with the Federal Government towards successful actualization of the second phase of Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme(GEEP) in the State.

GEEP is initiated by the FG to give interest free loans to the under-privileged and most vulnerable persons in the State and Country at large. It is one of the four legs of the National Social Investment Programme implemented by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

The State Focal Person, National Social Investment Programme, Dr Godwin Akpan emphasized that the programme is a complement to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s efforts towards poverty eradication in the State notably through his industrialization drive and Dakkada philosophy.

Akpan noted these, today, during the flag off of the training for Community Orientation and Mobilization Officers(COMOS) on GEEP, phase 2, held at the Federal Secretariat, Abak road, Uyo.

The State Focal Person also maintained that the training is aimed at the education of the community officers on their roles of registering and enlightening the target beneficiaries on how to access the GEEP loans, which will help eradicate poverty and generate jobs.

He expressed strong confidence on the integrity and high performance level of the selected community officers from the National Orientation Agency in the State, saying that they’ll deliver on the given mandate in the exercise.

“You’ve been selected because your office has a spread in all the Local Government in the country. It is not an opportunity to extort money from the people who are already down on the poverty pyramid. I have confidence that these are disciplined and integrated officers of National Orientation Agency. I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll deliver on the given mandate in this exercise.”

He thanked the Federal Government for organizing the training and specially commended Governor Udom for his Dakkada philosophy which has transformed the entrepreneurial fortunes of Akwa Ibomites.
