How to Convert an Image Background to Transparent in PowerPoint

The graphics in a PowerPoint presentation are crucial in expressing the content. Therefore, visuals may need to be tweaked to meet the presentation’s goals.

To urge your audience to focus on the content displayed in the foreground, you can make a backdrop image translucent to diminish its intensity.

We’ll teach you how to make your image background translucent, how to make areas of your background image visible, and how to erase the image if you want to play around with alternative pictures in this article.

Ways to Convert an Image Background to Transparent in PowerPoint

You can change the original look of an image in PowerPoint to suit your presentation style by making select colors or areas of the backdrop image translucent. This is handy when your design has a specific color scheme or wants to reduce the brightness.

To make the entire image translucent in PowerPoint for Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the PowerPoint presentation.
  2. Click on “Insert,” then “Shapes.”
  3. Decide on a shape from the gallery.
  4. Then, make a shape that’s roughly the same size as the image you’re about to insert.
  5. Tap on the shape, then select “Format,” “Shape Outline,” “No Outline.”
  6. Right-click on the shape, then click “Format Shape.”
  7. Select the “Fill” icon from the “Format Shape” box, then Texture or “Picture fill.”
  8. Choose the “Insert” button.
  9. From the “Insert Picture” dialog box, find the image file you wish to insert.
  10. Select the image, then click on the “Insert” button.
  11. To change the image’s transparency, utilize the “Transparency” slider in the “Format Shape” window.
  12. You can also type a value into the box beside the slider: 0% is the default option and displays fully opaque; 100% displays entirely transparent.

Note: If you change the original size ratio of your shape by moving it, your image may become skewed. If your image doesn’t fit properly within your shape, resize it or use the “Offset” setting beneath the transparency slider to change the image’s appearance.
