The Memory of A Rare Gem, Late Hon. (Barr.) Cosmas Udoenwenwen Lives On

As the soul of Late Hon.(Barr.) Cosmas Peter Udoenwenwen continues to rest in peace, three years after he was lowered onto Mother Earth, His memory lives on, most especially in the minds of the good people of Obot Akara LGA. No one could easily forget a rare gem like Barr. Cosmas Udoenwenwen except those who may not have had personal contact with him or read about his life history.

Late Barr. Udoenwenwen, no doubt was a successful man, great philanthropist and role model who contributed immensely to the socio-economic and political development of Obot Akara LGA. He was a man bestowed with several honours and awards due to his social and generous lifestyle. Till today his departure has created a big vacuum which cannot be filled in a hurry. Udoenwenwen is greatly missed not just by his immediate family, but to the people of Obot Akara LGA and His Loved Ones. It is only God who granted the people of Obot Akara LGA the fortitude to bear his demise with the ability to move on in life.

One of the most invaluable lessons to be learnt from the life and times of this stormy petrel was his fanatical commitment to make good governance work. This endeared him to several political elevation. He carried out his political mission as a call to service and people empowerment.

From his background, Late Barr. Cosmas Peter Udoenwerwen was born on March 23rd, 1968 to the family of Late Chief (Hon.) Peter Joseph Udoenwenwen of Atai Essien family in Okpo Eto Ikot Imoh Village, Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

He bagged his LLB Degree Certificate from the University of Lagos in 1991. He was later enrolled in the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos where he bagged his Bachelor of Law (B.L) certificate in 1992. Late Barr. Cosmas Udoenwenwen was duly called to the Nigeria Bar on the 16″ day of December, 1992. Cosy, as he was fondly called, became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria at the age of 24. Late Barrister Cosmas Udoenwenwen participated in the NYSC scheme at the Ministry of Justice Ogun State and was discharged in November, 1993.

Late Barr. Udoenwenwen during his days on earth had served in various political offices. He was the Pioneer Legal Adviser, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Obot Akara Chapter. He was Appointed Personal Assistant (PA) to the Deputy Governor, Obong (Dr.) Chris Ekpenyong of Akwa Ibom State between 1999-2003. He served as the Vice Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Obot Akara Local Government Area – 2003-2004; appointed Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Obot Akara Local Government Area on the 1″ day of March, 2004; appointed Obot Akara Local Government Council Secretary 2004 – 2007; appointed member, Governing Council, College of Arts and Science, Nung Ukim, Ikono Local Government Area on 27″ October, 2008; and the appointed Special Assistant to the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Akwa Ibom State – 2013 till he died.

He was a member of Night of Saint Mulumba (KSM) in the Roman Catholic Church. He was happily married to Hon. (Lady) Agnes Udoenwenwen the current Executive Chairman, Obot Akara Local Government Council and he was blessed with 4 children.

Through his solid foundation, diligent in service and humanitarian development, the people of Obot Akara LGA during the last local Government election unanimously accepted the Candidature of Hon. (Lady) Agnes Udoenwenwen which led to her emergence as the Executive Chairman, Obot Akara Local Government Council.
