Obot Akara LGC Partners Prince Achibong’s Life Foundation to Empower Women.

…Doles Out Cash to Female Farmers for the Farming Season

Towards effective engagements in agricultural activities in the farming season, Obot Akara Local Government Council in partnership with Prince Archibong’s Life Foundation has doled out agricultural empowerment grant to female farmers to invest in farming that will enhance bounty harvest.

The women who were selected across the 11 Wards in the area smiled home with 50 thousand Naira cash on Monday at the Council Secretariat, Nto Edino, promising to make judicious use of the grant.

In a welcome address, the Chairman Obot Akara Local Government Council, Lady Agnes Udoenwenwen said the empowerment is in partnership with Prince Achibong’s Life Foundation to assist female farmers to enlarge their farm businesses for a bounty harvest.

She said that encouraging women
who are farmers is very paramount and timely, especially now that Nigeria places much importance on the diversification of her economy through agricultural production.

Lady Udoenwenwen noted that women constitute 70 to 80 percent of the labour force in agriculture, that produce the bulk of food for domestic consumption and industrial processing and marketing, lamenting that in spite of all these enormous tasks, women still have limited access to credit facilities for enlargement of their businesses.

She advised the beneficiaries to utilize the fund judiciously, noting that effective use of the empowerment opportunity can only guarantee eradication of extreme poverty and hunger in Obot Akara LGA, while creating employment for many.

She thanked Prince Achibong’s Life Foundation for the great partnership assuring that this is the first batch of the empowerment and her administration is opened to liaise with various stakeholders and NGOs to continue empowering farmers through various means.

Also speaking, the President Prince Achibong’s Life Foundation, Prince Mendy Achibong accompanied by his mother congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them to take farming serious as it remains the main source of living.

He thanked the leadership of the Council for opening up for partnership towards touching and empowering Obot Akara people, describing the administration of Lady Agnes Udoenwenwen as government for the people.

He explained that the foundation is his desire to provide intermediate humanitarian services to persons and communities, with the sole aim of reducing poverty while promoting healthy living.

In a Goodwill message, former Chairman State Primary Education Board, Prof. Maria Ikorok appreciated the opportunities created by the Council to the female farmers through partnering with Prince Archibong’s Life Foundation, commending on the strides of the Council Chairman towards enhancing food sufficiency in Obot Akara LGA.

She thanked Prince Achibong for the gesture and advised the women not to divert the money to personal problems. She however prayed for the Council Chairman and Prince Achibong’s Life Foundation.

The beneficiaries in their separate appreciation thanked the Council Chairman and Prince Archibong’s Life Foundation for empowering them to expand their farming businesses and prayed to the almighty God to bless and protect their lives of their benefactors.

Others at the event were, Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Uduak Akpan, Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mary Moses Akpana, Councillors, Staff of the Council, Chapter and Ward executives, members of Prince Achibong’s Life Foundation among others.
