The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch has appealed to partner with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council to enhance wider coverage of the activities of Ibom 2021 Engineering Week/Conference.
The appeal was made on Tuesday when the Chairman Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch, Engr. Ukeme Okpob led Executive Committee Members to a courtesy visit to the State Working Committee, Nigeria Union of Journalists Akwa Ibom State Council at NUJ Secretariat, Uyo.
Engr. Okpob who was represented by the Vice Chairman of the Society, Engr. Uwem Akpan appreciated the Leadership of the Chairman, NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council, Comr. Amos Etuk for his magnanimity to receive members of NSE Uyo Branch.
He stated that partnering with the NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council will promote rapid growth of the two professional bodies, adding that being informed with accurate information is a major step towards taking a good decision.
Briefing the State Working Committee of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council on Ibom 2021 Engineering Week/Conference, Engr. Okpob said the theme of the conference is “Sustainable Infrastructure and Industrial Development in Akwa Ibom State.”
He intimated NUJ that the Ground Breaking of the National Engineering Center Annex/NSE Uyo Branch Secretariat shall be performed by His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
While presenting the schedule of activities for the 2021Engineering week/Conference to the Chairman of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comr. Amos Etuk, Engr. Okpob said the Engineering week/conference will take place from 24th-30th July, 2021 with the following activities: road
walk exercise, football match, visitation to motherless babies home, thanksgiving service at Methodist Church, 67 Udo Umana Street, Uyo, radio/tv talk, project site inspection, industrial visit, conference, and dinner/ award night.
Reacting to the request, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comr. Amos Etuk thanked Nigerian Society of Engineers Uyo Branch for the recognition and assured to give NSE Uyo Branch a wider publicity with team of Journalists available to cover each activities of the week.
Comr. Etuk said that the meeting is very significant not just to chat a way forward, but to create a synergy that will bring growth to the two professional bodies.
He added that his administration is aimed at setting standard and building of integrity for Journalism Profession, despit the side talks and blackmails from the use of social media to spread information in the modern age.
He stressed that one must obtain basic training in journalism profession before being admitted into Nigeria Union of Journalists.
He commended the quality of Services delivered by members of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch and appealed professional advice on the NUJ House. He presented 4th Edition of NUJ standard to the Vice Chairman of NSE Uyo Branch.
The visit featured formal presentation of the schedule of activities for the 2021 Engineering week/Conference to the Chairman of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comr. Amos Etuk and inspection of NUJ House at the NUJ Secretariat, Uyo.
