National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) Worldwide has honoured Akwa Ibom State Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Glory Emmanuel Edet as matron of the association.
The award of honour was conferred to Dr. Edet recently when the President of the association, Snr. Comr. Aniedi Michael led members of his Executive and Student Leaders from different Institutions to a courtesy visit in her office at Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Agriculture, Uyo.
According to Comr. Aniedi Michael, the honour is based on Dr. Edet’s support, shared values and her distinctive human capital empowerment programmes which most Akwa Ibom State Students are beneficiaries.
He described Dr. Edet as a student friendly Leader, virtuous woman and deeply humane mother who shows compassion and care to people irrespective of their personal background.
While appreciating Dr. Edet for all that she has done to support Akwa Ibom State Students, he prayed to God Almighty to continue protecting her and as well acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Edet in the Completion Agenda of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.
Comr. Michael also briefed the Hon. Commissioner on his achievements in less than seven months in office which he mentioned, free JAMB preparatory classes in Uyo, first ever students security summit at EEMJM Hotel, Uyo, Campus tour in Tertiary Institutions in Akwa Ibom State, establishment of NAAKISS Worldwide Vegetable Farm among others.
He decried that the association suffers lack of office accommodation for administrative use, lack of vehicle to aid in the supervision, monitoring of projects and day-to-day running of the association activities, lack of funds for execution of the association capital projects as captured in 2020 annual budget of NAAKISS Worldwide, lack of scholarship and bursary for students.
He however appealed for attachment of Agric Extension Officer to NAAKISS Worldwide vegetable farm, for supervision and provision of technical advice, supplies and donation of improved farm seedlings and other input to the farm and financial support for expansion of the ongoing 22 hectares is vegetable farm at Eket and financial support to the forthcoming International Students Day celebration on the 17th November 2021 at EEMJM Hotel, Uyo.
Responding to the honour, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet appreciated the Students for the award bestowed on her and congratulated the leadership of Comr. Aniedi Michael for peaceful administration so far and wonderful ideas that will transform the association.
She noted that as a former Staff Adviser of Students, University of Uyo for about 8 years and Staff Adviser for Ini Students, UNIUYO Chapter for about 8 years, she has understood the challenges of Students leadership and the problem faced by Students.
She advised all the students to put their Academics first as the main reason why they are in higher Institutions, noting that good results and what they learned in school will help hem their future endeavors.
She further advised the Students to shun cultism, drug abuse and other social vices that distract them from learning, calling on students Leaders to leave up to expectations by taking responsibility and being accountable in whatever they do.
She promised to look thoroughly into the requests of the association and to partner with the association to improve and sustain the Association’s farm projects.
She also promised to support the association by sending team of agric extension officers to inspect the vegetable farm and to supervise and offer technical advice for the improvement of the farm.
The courtesy visit featured presentation of a portrait picture to Hon Commissioner, presentation of NAAKISS Worldwide vegetable farm projects to the Hon. Commissioner and goodwill messages/appeals from other student leaders.
Also at the courtesy visit were, Permanent Secretary, Directors, Agric Extension Officers and other staffers in the Ministry.
