Gov. Udom Terminates SUBEB Perm Sect’s appointment

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has terminated the appointment of the Permanent Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), Mr Ezekiel Umoh.

Sources revealed that the letter of termination of appointment was handed over to Umoh on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. This decision by the Governor means Ezekiel Umoh’s contract with Akwa Ibom State Civil Service will no longer be renewed.

It would be recalled that Umoh had retired from Civil Service some years ago. However, he was appointed by the Governor and posted as a Permanent Secretary to SUBEB, on contract basis.

It was gathered that the contract expires by the end of June, 2021.

It is strongly believed that the Governor’s refusal to reappoint Umoh is due to stiff opposition from civil servants who upheld that it would only amount to bigger trouble if the retired Permanent Secretary was reappointed.

Our Correspondence was reliably informed that the civil servants demanded for a new face as Permanent Secretary.

It is learnt Umoh already had built high hopes that the Governor will again appoint him to continue.

Meanwhile, when our reporter visited SUBEB in the early hours of Wednesday 16 June, staffers and Board members were seen discussing the issue with some expressing excitement and commending the Governor for what they described as a well-timed decision.
