Here’s how you can hide Google Meet in Gmail’s desktop app

Google Meet in Gmail’s desktop app – Google Meet (previously known as Hangouts Meet) is a Google video-communication service. It’s one of two programs that take the place of Google Hangouts, with the other being Google Chat.

Google formally launched Meet in March 2017 after being invite-only and discreetly launching an iOS app in February 2017.

The service was announced as a video conferencing tool for up to 30 people, dubbed a “enterprise-friendly” version of Google Hangouts. It’s available as a web app, an Android app, and an iOS app.

While the following features were added to Google Meet to improve the original Hangouts app, certain basic Hangouts capabilities were removed, such as viewing attendees and chatting at the same time. The number of video streams enabled at one time was also decreased to eight (although up to four feeds can be shown in the “tiles” pattern), giving priority to those who had used their microphone the most recently. In addition, rather than shrinking the video feeds to fit, elements like the chatbox were adjusted to overlay them. Hangouts will be decommissioned in the first half of 2021.

Between January and April 2020, the use of Meet increased by a factor of 30 during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, with 100 million daily users compared to 200 million daily users for Zoom as of the last week of April 2020.

For delinquent accounts, Google has suspended its regular 60-minute limit.

Google’s many services, such as Google Hangouts, Google Meet, Google Chat, and Google Duo, have made our professional work and communication easier. We may now electronically communicate with one another, attend online lectures and business meetings, organize seminars and workshops, access a wide range of information, and keep in touch with our loved ones.

Google Meet is a premium video conferencing software that can be accessed at meet.google.com. It is a revised and enterprise-friendly version of Google Hangouts. It was launched as a replacement for Google Hangouts and Google Chat for multi-way audio and video calls, with features such as an accompanying chat, noise-cancelling audio filter, video low-light mode, and more. You can use Google Meet to make video chats for personal and professional purposes, even if you don’t have access to your computer.

Here’s how you can hide your Google Meet in Gmail’s desktop app:

In 2020, everyone with a Google account had access to Google Meet, which allowed them to create or join a video conference using their Gmail inbox. You can choose to conceal the buttons if you don’t intend to utilize Google Meet. Follow these simple steps to hide your Google Meet in Gmail’s desktop app:

Step 1: Go to Gmail and click the cog icon in the top-right corner. Now select ‘See all Settings’ from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Next, go to the ‘Chat and Meet’ page and pick the ‘Hide the Meet section in the main menu’ option next to the ‘Meet’ title.

Step 3: Don’t forget to save your changes by clicking the ‘Save Changes’ button. Gmail’s desktop app will hide your Google Meet.

Even after concealing the Meet shortcut in Gmail, you may still use Meet at any time by going to meet.google.com. Both Android and iOS apps can use the same method to hide Google Meet in Gmail’s desktop app. However, depending on your administrator’s settings, you may not be able to hide Google Meet if you’re using a corporate Google Workspace account.
