…as Gov’s aide rolls out activities
…says event will create jobs, boost livelihood
First-ever Ibom entertainment week will kick-off on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Entertainment, Mr David Sergeant made this known, Monday during a press briefing held at the Ibom Tropicana, Uyo.
The week-long event, according to Sergeant, will be studded with the best of entertainments, top-notch performances by majorly indigenous secular and gospel artistes alongside star artistes from outside the oil-rich State.
Popularly known as Utang Akwa Ibom, the Entertainment Boss said the event, which will draw to a close, Sunday, September 19, aims to bring to the fore the massive and multi-faceted talents and different kinds of entertainment in the State, create opportunities for talents in the entertainment industry to be celebrated and keep the masses entertained back to back.
Reeling out lined-up activities for the event, the Governor’s aide said the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, is to flag-off the ceremony on Wednesday at the Ibom Tropicana. According to him, however, the opening ceremony will be preceded by a road walk, with over 300 cultural dancers and the people moving from Plaza to Ibom Tropicana.
“The opening ceremony will be followed by Ibom Royalty and Fashion Night same day. At the event, royalties in the entertainment industry will be celebrated.
“Thursday, September 16, will witnessed the second edition of Ibom Entertainment Roundtable where the likes of Ali Baba, Aniekpeno Mkpanang, Mr Raphael Edem, Mr Xto, Eve Esin, amongst others, will grace the event. We are also expecting Tourism Commissioners outside the State at the roundtable. The event will take place at Monty Suites by 10am. Ibom Comedy Convention will spice up the day too.”
” Ibom Peace Concert will hold on Friday with red carpet at 4pm and the main event at 6pm. Ibom Peace Concert, however, will be preceded by visits to Chief Ntafiong, Etubom Praise Williams and other legends in the entertainment industry. We are expecting artistes like Skales, Iyanya, amongst others at the concert. Nothing less than 70 home-based artistes will perform live. We’ll bring in some international national artistes to share the platform with our indigenous artistes. It will be a great privilege to have them.
“On Saturday, we will join our Sister in the industry, Aniebiet Francis, for the official inauguration of Association of Movies Producers, Akwa Ibom State Chapter at Watbridge Hotels and subsequently followed by Ibom Film Festival at Ibom Tropicana by 6pm. Our thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday morning at Assemblies of God Church, Osongama. Our gala night will start by 6pm at Ibom Tropicana,” he continued.
Speaking on the economic benefits of the first ever entertainment week, Utang Akwa Ibom highlighted that the one week event has already started creating jobs for indigenes as local hands are being patronized for the production of costumes and other things to be used for the event.
He added that the living standards of the indigenous artistes who will be performing at the event, will witness a boost as their efforts will be rewarded financially.
Also speaking at the briefing, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring and Chairman, Ibom Entertainment Week Planning Committee, Godfada Uko, thanked the media for their continued partnership with Ibom entertainment industry. He assured the event will turn out a success.
